Why do I need a domain name?

A Domain Name provides the basis of your identity on the Internet which typically forms your email and website addresses. It reflects your business identity or perhaps yourself. Importantly, you have exclusive use and it is not tied to a specific service provider.

How much does domain registration cost?

Domain Names are typically registered for your exclusive use for a period of between 1 and 10 years. Prices vary depending upon the Top Level Domain (TLD) that you register it under. Common TLDs include COM and ORG,  ccTLDs include CO.UK, DE, CO.NZ.

Does a domain come with a website and email?

Registering a domain reserves the right to use the domain but it does not inherently include a website or email. Iridis offer a range of flexible options starting from just a few Pounds/Euro/Dollars per month.

Should I register a .UK and a .COM domain?

If you have thought of a new domain that is available as both a .CO.UK and .COM it is a good idea to register both as it protects your identity on the Internet and is cheaper than retrospectively trying to purchase a domain held by a third party.

What is the benefit of registering a .UK domain?

What is WHOIS, will my details be public?

When a domain is registered the registry will update the WHOIS database to include your domain. Historically this record included the street address of the domain owner. However, since GDPR was introduced the default is typically for UK/EU registrant details to be withheld from display in WHOIS.
